Cat Safety Propaganda

I originally wanted to write a short comic to tide you guys over until I finished the really long comic I'm working on (hopefully I'll post it on Monday), but then I got totally carried away and ended up making an overly dramatic animated film about a childhood experience with my mom's friend's cat.

CATS: THEY HAVE SHARP PARTS.

Freaking brilliant post! I am so freaking glad that I found your blog, you're amazing!

When I was little my step-brother would pull our cat Kiko around by its tail all the time and the poor thing never hurt him or any of us kids. He did however take it out on my step dad later.

But growing up with pet crazy parents, I've had my fair share of ouchies.

I lived with a cat like that for years and could never quite figure out the folly of my ways until I saw this cat safety message. Sometimes you just have to hear it from an authority figure!

Say...something in me wants that "THE" "END." at the end to come as three beats:

"THE"
and then
"END"
and then
"."

The period coming separate, and last.

That's not by any means a criticism of the decision made, though! Effective as is.

This reminds me of a similar experience I had with a neighbor hood cat. I went to pet this big white cat that hangs around my front lawn. Well, It came up to me all "pet me-y" and I petted it. Then, without warning, i was savaged by satan's cat. It clawed its way up my back and I grabbed it off and swung hard with it. I didn't see the lightpole next to me and, consequentally, broke the light right off. Evil cat was stunned, and I remained triumphant over the animal kingdom.

Amanda said...

oh my goodness that is great. I didn't care how many times cats scratched or bit me, It was like god commanded me to pet them. Sometimes the same vicious one over and over.

LOL. I love it, especially the killer music.

Your dramatic scene reminds me of when a squirrel bit my finger while I was feeding it peanut butter chocolate balls at the park when I was about four years old. It latched on and stayed even while I was flailing around. In retrospect, I probably should have gotten a rabies shot or something....

Heather said...

I hate THE SHIT out of cats! They are sneaky bastards with, as you so aptly put, sharp parts. You never know what they are thinking and even when they are "playing" with you, they are hurting you. I just don't have time for that. Like with a dog, you can throw shit and they will run after it and bring it back to you. That's awesome. But cats? Cats think its fun to crawl up your leg using their SHARP ASS claws. And if they are pissed off at you, you don't know it until you are BLEEDING. I'm sorry this turned out to be more of a rant than a comment, but I really hate THE SHIT out of cats.

Oh and good job on the video, I loved it. Except the part with the meanmonsterdemon cat.

Crookshanks said...

Cats are fucking dangerous. Everyone should know.

I recently went to this lady's house. Her orange cat came up to me and wanted to be petted. So I petted it. It was purring and everything. Then the little bastard BIT me on the finger. The self-satisfied look on its face was so maddening. Its owner was all like, "That's the way he is," like it was cute or something. Ummm . . why didn't you tell me that BEFORE I petted your demon cat?

I agree with Heather. I hate THE SHIT out of cats.

andrea said...

Thank you! That was fantastic! My stomach hurts from laughing. I have a very sweet cat - who HATES little kids. She is fine as long as the kid stays away.

My friend came to stay and brought her son. Both seemed to be completely oblivious to the whole cats have sharp parts thing. So, whenever the cat would come out - I would have to grab her son as he didn't seem to think that a cat ridged up in a corner, hissing and spitting and swatting was in any was anything short of an invitation for snuggles. (I've learned not to rescue kitty from these situations, in her terror she will get to the highest point. My head - and she'll claw her way up there. I've had my ear and cheek pierced that way....)

Next time they come I'm making my friend watch this so they understand what tormenting kitty can lead to....

Thank you for this important public service announcement!

This is great, and reminds me of every encounter with a cat I've ever had. I think the only way you could have made the cat's facial expressions better would have been to superimpose a REAL cat's head making those faces over the cartoon body ... we all know cats do make that exact face for real.

I just started reading your blog lately (after a friend linked me to the post about the alot, prompting me to wonder why alots are not real, because I'd love one to be my best friend, whom I would name Stanley and ride to work) and the more I read, the more I become convinced we are the same person.

The displaced Fabulachian said...

That made me laugh until I cried. MY cat was like that when I was a kid. My parents thought it was hilarious that this beast from hell would chase me through the house until she had me cornered on my bed. I'd be screaming at the top of my lungs for someone to come help me while the demon-spawn would stalk back and forth just waiting for an opportunity to dig her teeth and claws into my unsuspecting and savory legs. .... Yet now I'm all grown up and I actually own two cats. But they're not psychotic.

PS: My mother -- 20 years later -- still laughs when I bring up these traumatizing cat chasing stories.

that is exactly the phrase we keep telling our 3 year old, "the kitties are sharp, don't bother the kitties".

Also, cats are poisonous/venomous. That is, if you're on youtube. I once saw a person saying cat bites are so bad because they are venomous. They were totally serious, although what they were referring to was how unclean cats' mouths are.

So, between my friend Waffles and me, cats are venomous and if you get bitten, it will kill you.

Wow.

Sunday night, I checked in with The Daily Wh.at, and saw a link to this here video. LAUGHED MY BUTT OFF, and immediately sent the video to two cat-owning friends. Whilst trying to figure out how to post the video to their facebook pages, I came to your blog and started to read...
I read the Bicycle story and laughed SO hard that I cried, scared my boyfriend, and ran down the hall to show our roommate your blog.
I read the "Why I'll Never Be An Adult" entry and was completely hooked.
Summary: since Sunday night, until today, Tuesday, around 5pm, I read every single one of your blog posts! Completely shirked all work responsibilities because I could not concentrate on anything else until I read all that there was to read.
So, um, thanks!

The second will do things like your video when she really really really doesn't want to be held (whatareyoudoingLEMMEGOLEMMEGOLEMMEGOIHAVECLAWSSUCKA!), and the demonic one when he feels like it (oh, you're petting me lovingly because I walked up next to you? HISSSSSSSSSSSSS). The one that thinks he's a dog will walk outside on a leash and runs to the door when people come. Go figure.

Oh my gosh.

I was laughing SO HARD AT THAT.

I've been reading your blog for the past 4 months but just got my own account so NOW I CAN FOLLOW STALK YOU :B

You need to keep in mind that when you write these really, really funny things, those of us with childbearing-induced bladder control issues have to be very careful about where and when we read your blog. Just sayin'...

So funny! I'm glad I'm not the only monster that ever cornered a poor cat. My mom actually took pictures of me carrying around my cat in a pillow case.

Now I'm wondering why she didn't make me put it down. :)

If this blog is any indication of what your life is like, it's a wonder you've managed to live as long as you have. It seems like everything that comes within a certain distance of you attempts to murder you.

Cats have it in for me... and so do cows... sneaky bastards.
My childhood creep cat was a fluffy orange petcryptkeeper named Gloria.
Evil. pure evil.
the end.
i heart this by the way... radness squared.

I'm a new follower thanks to a friend and I'm totally hooked! I won't say how much of your blog I've read in the past couple of days...because then I'd look creepy. And I'm totally not. I don't think?
Anyway, love your blog alot.
ha! Does everyone do that to you now?

Anonymous said...

I so... I just got distracted by the fact that you are "super creepy and totally capable of finding" ME!!! I'm scared... MOMMY!!! ='(

Anyway, this happened to me... Except it wasn't a cat. It was a hamster. And it wasn't a forehead. It was an index finger. And I didn't run around screaming. I hid my finger in my PJ's shirt.
Bottom line is never feed a part of a steak to a hmaster.

... I just noticed the scar a couple of months ago... :o

I was going to kill myself today. Then I read your post on bicycles, and watched the video of the cat. I feel less like killing myself now. I just wanted to say thanks.

Lola
P.S. I love your blog. I wish I knew you when I was in highschool. Something tells me that we would've had fun together. <3

I love this...alot. (heeheehee)

This actually happened to my husband. The cat's name was Spike. You can still see the claw marks on his cheeks when he gets a reasonable tan.

This just affirms my belief that cats are eeeeeviiiiil

I've been keeping up with your blog for several months now. As you are well aware, it's fucking hilarious. I just wanted to say, I thought I was the only one who used the phrase 'sharp parts' in reference to cats. You're awesome Allie. :)

Andrea said...

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Fracking hilarity.

Please, please, please do more animations like this!!! That was absolutely epic :D

I <3 your work.
Typically I tell people that I only watch horror films at the hour of noon on sunny days (with the blinds open wide and full sun striking the couch). For, when I do watch the films -- well, for an explanation, I shall now have to point people to this strip!

Thank you very much. I really enjoyed reading your post & your art.

I lol'd. Hardcore style. That is all.

Ha! So first the disclaimer about being able to find me cracks me up! Second, you SO need to send your videos to tosh.o for the viewer video of the week! It would make you alot more famous! (that alot was on purpose!) Ok I will stop excessively using the exclamation point and just tell you thanks for the posts. You are hilarious! I will donate as soon as my sad teachers salary improves!

JMH said...

As #375 can I say anything new? Of course I can. Brilliant video, etc, you are the future of art.

But cats have soft parts too. Big cats have big soft parts. I've scratched an ocelot behind the ears. I've stroked a tiger's belly. Of course I'm dead and writing this from beyond the grave.

Sara Mc said...

Must. Have. T-Shirt. That. Says. Cats: They have sharp parts! And the back should totally say The End! I think that would be great but, I did come up with the idea so not thinking it would be great would probably mean that I have some sort of personality disorder. Which I do not have...

After 20 years of being a cat owner, I can totally relate to your story! Except it involved me being a stupid ten year old, a tub of water and, until that moment, a docile cat. Yeah, I won't go into any details but, I wound up with 17 stitches and I had to lock the cat out of my room every night for a month out of fear for my life. Thank you for your story!

OMG, I just laughed so hard I choked. On drool. Thank you.

Ahhahahahahahaha! *gasps for breath* sharp parts hehehe No, I wouldn't know any stories about kitty sharp parts *whistles innocently*

Jess said...

RIGHTEOUS! This was like an exact replica of when my 3 year old niece met my kittens. Except kittens don't know how to use their sharp parts as well as adult cats, so Charlotte kind of won the first round. She came around the corner clutching the cat in a death grip and was like "him like me!"

Genevieve said...

are you totally rockin' Nightwish in this vid Allie? I had a similar experience with a "friend's" cat, but at least it was only my arm, and not my head...

Alison said...

A gray cat huh. I had a gray Tabby named Felix he died while I was in London this summer :(. But I have many scars as a reminder not to pet him too long. I miss him.

Jesus H. Christ! I thought you were afraid of horror movies. I'm gonna go watch Hostel to erase the memory of your cat movie.

You very nearly caused my demise by watching this.
Note to self: Do not enjoy a beverage while watching Allie's videos. Choking may occur upon laughing

Love it!!! My daughter and our kitten act this out daily... slightly less blood though.

HAHAHAHA! :D

That was freakin' hilarious. It's about time someone made an accurate description of a cat. LOL

Ryo said...

Awesome!

Yeah, the song does sound like "COME HERE KITTY!" I'll think of that from now on whenever I hear that kind of music.

Ryo said...

How'd the cat get its jaws around your entire head? Man, that's brutal, but I can't stop laughing!

This video made me laugh so hard I was crying! Hilariously fantastic. (From a cat-lover/owner!)

Just when I was starting to think I was the only person who has had an awful cat experience, and thus believes cats are evil, something wonderful like this comes along to make me feel better!
