I dream that I'...Sometimes I have spider dreams. I dream that I'm in bed - not that I'm not really in bed, but I'm also dreaming it and, importantly, in the dream I am awake in bed while in real life I am asleep in bed. And I dream of one or more spiders in my bed. And then I wake up.

Always I start by panicking. I will be out of bed and at the light switch before I'm consciously aware of moving, and while my brain is still running on dream logic. (I recently mentioned this to some friends who recognised the foggy period where reality has not yet kicked in but were startled to learn that I become ambulant before this phase ends. It can be dangerous - I once fell down the stairs while rushing to help someone I believed was in peril outside.)

Once the dream haze dissipates, I can sometimes deduce that it was a dream. Sometimes I was dreaming of a whole horde of spiders all over my bed, and clearly they could not all have disappeared completely from sight so quickly. On one occasion, my curtains had spoken to me about the spider.

In other cases, I dreamed of a single spider in my bed, and when a spider is not immediately evident upon waking up I have to engage in a thorough search of my bedding, while trying not to risk the potential spider getting on me, and gradually calm down and persuade myself that it was a dream.

And of course, there was the time I calmed myself down, returned to bed, peacefully slept the remainder of the night, and woke up in the morning to find the spider inches from my head.Carriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11406849127208192970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4643741973264866223.post-62082807483744140282010-08-26T11:30:43.497-06:002010-08-26T11:30:43.497-06:00I was staying at a hotel in Indonesia when in the ...I was staying at a hotel in Indonesia when in the morning I saw a spider the size of the palm of my hand, on the wall. It was pulsing up and down, and looked evil. I got on the phone, while watching it, to get someone to come to my room to remove it. As I was about to hang up the phone, the spider suddenly leapt at me from the wall about six feet away. Stunned, I was able to bat it away using the phone I still had in my hand. It landed on the desk and immediately charged towards me. I dropped the phone and picked up my shoes, Florsheims - patent leather uppers, hard wood-based soles. This time The Terminator (as I later nicknamed this spider) leapt off the desk and I swung a shoe at him. He stayed on the shoe and as I dropped it, he went inside. I stamped on the shoe - too slow! Now he was on my leg and heading North. I bashed my leg with the other shoe and on the second stirke took off two or three legs, and he fell to the floor and scuttled under the bed. Angry, partly dressed, limping and bleeding from where I had hit myself with my shoe, I charged the bed and flipped it over like it was a toy. The Terminator tried to escape but four hard blows later, it was over.
At this point the housekeeping guys turned up at my door, and when I let them in, the scene of devastation in my room left them a little breathless.
As they cleaned up the body and re-made the bed, I heard one say to the other "It was only a baby".Where_Am_I?noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4643741973264866223.post-88259010857521428892010-08-25T16:09:27.275-06:002010-08-25T16:09:27.275-06:00I'm so terrified of spiders I can't even k...I'm so terrified of spiders I can't even kill them. I have one that chases me around the house. Fred- not unlike Freddy Kruger- has been gooshed or killed some other way a whopping 19 times. Excellent.
I'm the same way about spiders, but have a system to repel them(in my head this works...) when I successfully squish one (few and far between as typically I'm as far away as possible, but occasionally when I'm backed into a corner I have to just throw something at it and make a run for it and do hit one) I leave bits of it on the wall/ceiling/whatever to warn the other spiders that I will kick their asses.
